Company Background

Established in 2006

Great Western Mining Corporation PLC is a PLUS Markets Irish exploration company that was listed in October 2006.   Originally  established  as a  gold and silver play based on old claim  data  from  the files  of a deceased prospector, the company generated a great deal ofexcitement  in  2007 and  2008 as a result of a uranium discovery.  Further surface mapping of   the  company’s  claims  has developed a  geological model where a number  of separate  uranium/precious metal,  precious metal, high grade oxidised  copper,  and   low grade bulk sulphide targets have been outlined.

Location

Great  Western’s  claims  are located in south-western Mineral County,  about  32  kilometres from  the  small town  of  Hawthorne. This  area forms part of the Nevada Desert’s Excelsior Mountains, which extend southwest  into California.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral_ _County_Nevada)

The Properties

100% owned claims

Great  Western’s properties  consist  of  411 unpatented  lode mining  claims  on public lands administered by the United States Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management.
The total  of all claims covers some 34 square kilometres.

Geology

Young acid intrusive rocks

The  Excelsior  Mountains consist of  granitic  (acid igneous) rocks of  late Cretaceous  Age intruded into older sediments,  and metamorphosed  rocks of  Permian to Jurassic Age.   The Excelsior  Mountains are sharply  defined by  northeast trending range front faults along  the south and east sides.  This  northwest  trending structure is also  shown in  aeromagnetic and gravimetric  mapping, which  has  been carried  out on  a regional scale.  High magnetic and gravimetric   anomalies  indicate  the  possibility of  mineralisation.    Copper  oxide  surface outcrops  coincide  with  aeromagnetic  and  gravimetric  information,   whilst  the  series  of southwest  aligned  anomalies  parallel to the  northwest  side of  Little Huntoon Valley have been  postulated  as intrusive  bodies.  Intrusive  bodies of  this age and location are possibly copper/molybdenum porphyries.

Walker Belt
  • The  Excelsior Mountains  are  located  on  a  geological  feature  known  as the  Walker Belt.
Several  significant  mineral  deposits  have  been  found  including  the Yerington  Porphyry Copper  deposit  -  identified  as a  Pluton structure and estimated to yield 6 million tonnes of copper.  If  this copper  skarn found on the  Ming Toy and  Huntoon  is indicative of a Pluton structure,  then the opportunity could be classified as a major near mineral find.
